Socially Responsible Business: Sonam Choki’s Nursery Earns Admiration and Respect in Changtagang
Sonam Choki’s Nursery has successfully established itself as a thriving flower-selling business in Changtagang, captivating customers with its exquisite floral creations.
Sonam Choki, 50-years old, a passionate and visionary businesswoman, has managed to turn her love for nature’s beauty into a flourishing enterprise, despite her lack of formal education.
Since its inception in 2016, the business has been running successfully and has garnered admiration and respect from the community due to Sonam Choki’s dedication to social responsibility.
Before venturing into the flower-selling business, Sonam Choki conducted thorough market research to identify the target market, audience, and competition. “At that time, there were relatively fewer flower-selling businesses, and the demand for flowers was high, allowing my business to smoothly commence,” she said.
Today, her nursery offers a wide variety of flowers, both indoor and outdoor, at reasonable prices that vary depending on the size.
To market her products, Sonam Choki utilized social media platforms and leveraged her network of friends and relatives to gain customers. “While most customers visit my nursery to purchase flowers, I also faces the challenge of delivering flowers to a few customers, as I resides far from the city and traveling can be difficult for me,” she said.
Despite these challenges, the business operates smoothly with no significant gains or losses, Sonam Choki acknowledges that flower selling is not an easy business. One of the biggest obstacles faced by the Nursery is the seasonal demand for flowers and the care required for different varieties.
“Many flowers have specific blooming seasons, leading to inconsistent availability throughout the year. This can make it challenging to meet the demand for certain varieties during the off-season,” she said.
She shared that during the summer season, flower care is comparatively easier than during the winter season. The cold temperatures and unpredictable weather in winter pose difficulties in caring for flowers, leading to some drying up despite daily care efforts, resulting in losses.
“The Nursery faced challenges during the pandemic, as travel restrictions made it difficult for me to sell flowers outside our zone,” she said.
Sonam Choki believes that obstacles in the flower business can be overcome through strategic planning and prioritizing the needs and preferences of customers. “While the flower business can be both rewarding and challenging, with the right strategies in place, it is possible to overcome obstacles and achieve success,” she said.
Sonam Choki’s dedication to her business and her commitment to making a positive impact on the community have been key factors in the Nursery’s success.
