Impact Hub Thimphu Founder, Tashi Wangdi, Shares Journey from Co-working to Business Incubation
Tashi Wangdi, Founder of Impact Hub Thimphu, has steered the hub through a transformative journey from co-working services to a primary focus on business incubation and consultancy services. In an exclusive interview, Wangdi shed light on the inspiration behind his entrepreneurial journey and the challenges he faced.
He expressed his deep-seated motivation to create a business that could make a significant impact by supporting youth-led enterprises and inspiring young individuals to embrace entrepreneurship as a viable career choice.
Impact Hub Thimphu started as a co-working services provider, offering mentoring for startups. Over time, Tashi’s passion for fostering impactful ventures led the organization to pivot towards business incubation and consultancy services.
“When I started Impact Hub Thimphu, my main goal was to support young entrepreneurs and foster a culture that encourages the youth to choose entrepreneurship. It was about creating a positive impact in the community,” Tashi Wangdi explained when asked about his inspiration.
However, Tashi encountered challenges rooted in cultural mindset barriers. His advice to aspiring entrepreneurs is to understand the needs of the business landscape and build products or services accordingly. He emphasized the importance of not relying excessively on state support and recommended staying ahead of the competition through continuous learning, including reading relevant literature.
“Businesses should try to build products or services around the needs of the local community. Understanding the cultural context is crucial,” he added.
For Tashi, the term “entrepreneur” goes beyond business success. He views it as an opportunity to pursue one’s passion while simultaneously creating a positive impact in the community and one’s life. Impact Hub Thimphu reflects this ethos, aiming to empower young entrepreneurs to thrive and contribute meaningfully to society.
Tashi Wangdi expressed, “Being an entrepreneur means having the opportunity to do what you love and, at the same time, creating a positive impact in the community and one’s life.”
Reflecting on the Jabchor platform, Tashi Wangdi acknowledged its role in providing valuable insights into RSEBL’s perspective and potential avenues for listing Impact Hub Thimphu in the future. Despite facing challenges in securing funding, the platform facilitated networking opportunities, allowing him to connect with like-minded individuals who share his commitment to fostering impactful businesses.
Tashi Wangdi’s journey with Impact Hub Thimphu stands as a testament to the transformative power of entrepreneurship in creating positive change. As the platform continues to focus on business incubation and consultancy services, it remains poised to shape the future of Bhutan’s entrepreneurial landscape.
