Kiba Wangmo, 26 years old, a resilient individual hailing from the serene landscape of Tongzhang, Tashiyangtse. Her journey reflects the rich tapestry of life in a remote setting. Where each experience has shaped her into the distinct and intelligent person today. Being born and raised in small serene town, with no prior knowledge of Spa and salons. She now become a business owner in the industry showcasing her adaptability and entrepreneurial spirit. Kiba Wangmo, who is high school graduate commenced her nail spa and salon business in September 2023 at Khuruthang, Punakha.
In order to provide the best wellness and beauty services, Kiba Wangmo opened her Rigsel Nail Spa and Saloon in Khuruthang, Punakha, with assistance from the Loden Foundation. She received training from respectable spas in Bhutan and then spent two years working at another salon before going out on her own with her other beauticians. Through her business, Kiba hopes to uplift women and provide everyone with access to beauty parlors by providing high-quality, reasonably priced services.
“The time was when having your hair done was something only wealthy women did, today there are salons for everyone, men as well as women, for a myriad of services. Salons and day spas for hair Inspiring her to pursue her own business venture care, facials, manicures and pedicures, cosmetics, tanning, and whole body pampering. It is a burgeoning industry,” she added.
She shared, in fast paced world, where stress is a constant companion, the spa and salon industry stands as an oasis of relaxation and self-care. From soothing massages to rejuvenating facials, these businesses have become an integral part of modern lifestyles, offering not just beauty services but a holistic escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
Kiba watched her older brother navigate the challenges of his business Bhutan Nail Spa with unwavering determination. His success and passion for his business ignited a spark in her, inspiring her to pursue her own business venture. She realized that with dedication and resilience, she could turn her dreams into reality, just like her brother had done.
“Being an entrepreneur is not always glamorous, there are many obstacles to overcome along the way, such as finding adequate funding, a suitable location for the business to launch, and qualified staff to support me,” she says. The spa and nail salon business has the same obstacles as any other business, including competition, shifting client tastes, and unstable economic conditions. However, innovative marketing, staying abreast of industry trends and providing exceptional customer service are key elements that can help business overcome these obstacles.
“The dynamic process of identifying opportunities, taking risks, and mobilizing resources to create and grow business” is what Kiba defines as entrepreneurship. It calls for creativity, strategic judgment, and an openness to unpredictability. According to her, perseverance is essential in business, and creating a profitable enterprise frequently entails overcoming obstacles, adjusting to uncertainty, and choosing a slow but steady growth trajectory.
She believes that entrepreneurs of Bhutan will continuously change and adapt to the quickly shifting global environment. She shared, she is going to continue her business in next five years, growing and helping her community by providing job opportunity to youth in spa and salon industry. On her final note, her advice to aspiring entrepreneur who are about to kick off their business is “Persist through challenges, embrace adaptability, and cultivate a passion for continuous learning, stay resilient and iterate quickly. Success in business often comes from evolving what your customers truly need and value.”
