Department of Trade Launches Brand Bhutan Store to Boost Local Products Globally

New store in the capital offers local entrepreneurs access to international markets with support from the World Trade Organisation

In a bid to further promote Bhutanese products both domestically and on the global stage, the Department of Trade, operating under the Ministry of Industry, Commerce, and Employment, unveiled the Brand Bhutan Store today at the Cottage and Small Industry located in Changzamtok.

The Brand Bhutan Store is a comprehensive marketplace showcasing a wide array of local products, ranging from textiles and paintings to a diverse selection of organic goods. The store aims to act as a vital bridge connecting local entrepreneurs to international markets, providing them with a platform to exhibit and sell their products to a global audience.

One of the most significant contributors to this initiative is the World Trade Organisation’s Enhanced Integrated Framework (EIF), which has extended substantial financial support to launch and sustain the Brand Bhutan Store. This collaboration highlights the importance of international partnerships in promoting local industries and sustainable economic growth.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Lyonpo Karma Dorji, the Minister of Industry, Commerce, and Employment, stated, “The Brand Bhutan Store is a testament to our commitment to nurturing and expanding the local industries. This initiative not only supports our entrepreneurs but also showcases the rich cultural and natural heritage of Bhutan to the world.”

This innovative store concept not only offers a physical space for products but also aims to create an online presence, further extending the reach of local businesses. By utilizing e-commerce and digital marketing strategies, Brand Bhutan Store intends to tap into global consumer markets and create a stronger demand for Bhutanese products.

Local entrepreneurs and artisans expressed their excitement about this development, as it provides them with a unique opportunity to showcase their craftsmanship and entrepreneurial spirit to a global audience.

“The Brand Bhutan Store is a game-changer for small businesses like mine,” one of the local artisan specializing in handmade textiles. “It offers us a chance to have our products seen and appreciated by people from all around the world, which was previously a distant dream.”

The Department of Trade plans to organize various promotional events and exhibitions to attract both domestic and international buyers to the Brand Bhutan Store. Additionally, they will collaborate with export promotion agencies to facilitate the export of Bhutanese products to different corners of the world.

As Bhutan continues to make strides in its efforts to promote its local industries and products globally, the Brand Bhutan Store is expected to play a pivotal role in showcasing the nation’s unique culture and craftsmanship to a wider international audience.

This initiative not only reinforces Bhutan’s commitment to sustainable economic development but also aligns with global efforts to support small and medium-sized enterprises in the post-pandemic recovery phase.
