The Resilient Artist Who Overcame Challenges and Founded Zungnaling Productions

Tshering Dorji, 34 years old from Gumla, Dagana, is a prominent artist, and singer from the Bhutan Film Association, has not only made a name for himself in the entertainment industry but has also defied the odds by establishing his own audiovisual production company, Zungnaling Productions. Born out of a passion for music and the desire to create a platform for fellow artists, Tshering’s journey has been marked by numerous challenges and triumphs.

Inspired by the senior artists of the Bhutan Film Association, Tshering embarked on his artistic journey with a vision to contribute to the vibrant cultural landscape of Bhutan.

However, he soon realized that the road to success would not be an easy one. “The lack of a platform and opportunities posed significant hurdles for him and his fellow artists,” he said, adding that the absence of support from the government and private sectors, along with copyright problems and inadequate infrastructure, further compounded the difficulties he faced.

Determined to overcome these challenges, he took a proactive approach. “I tirelessly searched for platforms within the country, both from the government and private sectors. Simultaneously, I explored opportunities beyond Bhutan’s borders, reaching out to neighboring countries such as India and Nepal to expand my network and seek new avenues for artistic expression,” he said.

However, it was his decision to establish Zungnaling Productions in 2016 that truly propelled Tshering’s career forward. “With my production house, I gained creative control over my own music and visual projects, allowing me to shape my artistic vision with autonomy. Through Zungnaling Productions, I produced songs, music videos, and other audiovisual content, creating a space where fellow artists could showcase their talents,” he said.

Reflecting on his journey, Tshering offers advice to aspiring entrepreneurs, “emphasizing the value of hard work and determination.”  He believes that success is attainable regardless of the scale of one’s endeavors, as long as one possesses an unwavering dedication to their work.

“Being an entrepreneur means more than simply starting a business. It means being adept at managing and organizing every aspect of one’s endeavors,” he said, adding that entrepreneurship is about taking risks, constantly learning, and adapting to the ever-changing demands of the industry.

Today, Tshering Dorji’s unwavering commitment and entrepreneurial spirit have firmly established him as a respected artist and the founder of Zungnaling Productions. Through his determination, he has created a platform not only for himself but for countless artists in Bhutan, fostering a thriving artistic community that continues to flourish.
