“Beauty is power, and makeup is something that really enhances that; it’s a woman’s secret.” – Charlotte Tilbury
Harnessing the power of beauty and enhancing it with makeup has become even more easier. Unleash your secrets, Tshering Wangmo, with her door-to-door make-up service, can allow you to do it through the comfort of your apartment, without even having to step outside. If you ever need her services, she is a call-away.
Tshering Wangmo, 36, from a remote Yukha village in Metakha under Chukha Dzongkhag is a staunch and firm believer that every woman deserves to look as beautiful as a fairy princess. She has pursued beauty and make-up as a passion all her life.
Having acquired all the required knowledge and skills of a beautician and make-up artist, she operated from a beauty parlour, pre-pandemic. Her business was doing well. But the pandemic struck and everything came to standstill. She lost both her income and customers.
“It didn’t make sense to pay rent for the space when I cannot operate the business,” Tshering recalled being logical to herself. Hence, she closed the business for good. Leaving behind a big lock hanging on the door of her beauty parlour, she headed back to her hometown – a far-flung remote village in Chukha. She had no choice but to return home and to farm. But the 13 years of experience knowledge and skills of being in the beauty parlour, remained deep inside her.
“It is a woman’s pride to look beautiful,” Tshering advocated and girl mates in her village got smitten. She helped her friends in the village with make-up. Then they started calling her to come to their house to do the same. It became almost regular. This had her rethinking. She could do the same in big towns like Thimphu – door-to-door service.
The pandemic also taught her a tough lesson. “It is during the pandemic that I got ample time to work out plans to reopen my business differently,” Tshering admitted. She added, “hailing from a middle-class family and with not enough qualifications to land up in any other jobs, the only thing I could bank on to derive my livelihood was being a beautician and make-up artist one way or other.” Being a single mother made it even more urgent.
She was at a juncture and that’s when she met the founder of DHRS, Tshering Peldon (Refer our earlier story https://mybizmagazine.com/helping-job-seekers-and-givers-to-take-their-next-step/ “The bitter experience of life and effect of the pandemic which we both had to endure bonded us. So, we both planned to overhaul the way we do business and come out with innovative ideas,” She narrated. She added, they discussed and agreed to make services for women looking for beauticians and make-up more easily accessible.
“This way, it will make the business competitive, effective, viable and benefit both service provider and availed,” she confided. That way, she could also support DHRS in employing more youth. Today, the idea blossomed and it is working. They have made it work – the beautician and make-up service at the customers’ doorstep.
“No matter what happens in life, we need to stay strong and stay beautiful.” This is my advice to all women,” Tshering said through her experience. “You need to learn the art of living through the art of looking beautiful. A beautiful person will have a beautiful heart and such people will be willing to work hard to make the world beautiful,” she trouted.
Tshering also shared that through DHRS, she is planning to expand the doorstep services and also support DHRS in fulfilling the goal of bringing happiness for all Bhutanese families through employment.
