My Passion for Music as a Part of My Life

Some might say there’s no such thing as a “music entrepreneur.” Tenzin Tshering Lhop, 33, from Dophuchen, Samtse says all working music producers, composers, songwriters, and audio engineers are undoubtedly entrepreneurs.

After his graduation, he didn’t opt to compete in the job market across the country but he followed his passion to open a music studio –he said the passion inside drives these changes, and his goal is to change the world with his passion in music from a younger age.

Unfortunately, his newfound excitement was challenged financially; some may think pursuing a career in music in those days was less than a thrill. “I was raised by a single parent and with a less-earning family, it’s been hard for me to set up all musical instruments and software.”

“From class 8-9 itself, I started fell in love with music – playing the musical instrument in my spare time and started composing songs or lyrics as well,” he said, adding, “Music is my passion. I cannot escape it. It is a part of who I am. It has strengthened my understanding of people and their emotions. I have come to realize that music is my calling in life.”

Nine years ago, Tenzin said, “I was lucky enough to attend three months of music training given by MoLHR- Music software.” Attending such training was my first opportunity to experience basic-level studies in music and explore my options in music as a career.

As an independent musician or composer, today, in Wangdue, people know him through OM STUDIO. “Initially, it is hard to earn money from my studio but today most youth and my friends are coming to my studio to record their songs,” he said.

As a music entrepreneur, he shared that aside from the product or service, entrepreneurs all share common traits, “People building a better mousetrap, bringing an invention to market, or starting a successful music career all need the same thing—determination.”

“To come up with Music Studio was my dream. The one thing that I never give up on is my dreams,” he said, adding that I consider my success amongst others.  Today his studio is equipped with every musical instrument and software to record his lyrics and songs.

“Just remember to keep an eye on every aspect of the process. Music entrepreneurship is more than being innovative with a product or service,” he said, adding that it involves a certain amount of business acumen, setting goals, agility, the ability to be objective, and the belief in yourself and your abilities.

Talking with MyBiZ, Tenzin shared that people allow their emotions to be affected by the music they listen to and this vulnerability places a great deal of responsibility on the musicians. Songs can alter people’s perspectives on different subjects. There have been stories of people on the verge of emotional and mental collapse who claim that a song saved their life.

“Music is powerful. Musicians have been given the gift of this responsibility. Songs can change the world,” he said, adding that he is the first one from Lhop to produce Lhops songs. He also composed modern Lhop songs.
