Nima Wangdi, fondly known as “Chutur,” hails from Samtse and has become one of Bhutan’s most prominent footballers. His journey began at just six years old, nurtured by the support of family and friends. With early access to proper coaching, he laid the foundation for a remarkable career.
After earning a spot in the Bhutan Football Federation Academy in 2012, Nima’s career soared. At 17, he joined the senior national team and made his professional debut with Thimphu City FC, winning the MVP award in his first season of the BoB Premier League.
He made a significant impact in international matches, including a key assist against Bangladesh and a crucial contribution to Bhutan’s 1-0 victory over Guam in the 2019 World Cup qualifiers. Despite a serious injury, Nima returned stronger in 2020.
In 2024, he captained Bhutan and was again named MVP of the BoB League. In 2025, he transferred to Paro FC for Nu. 2.5 lakhs, scoring in the AFC Challenge League.
Now the national team captain, Nima continues to inspire young players, advocating for youth academies and development. His vision and dedication reflect the bright future of Bhutanese football—where dreams meet discipline, and passion drives progress.
