Nu 300M Allocated to Scale Existing Startups

The government has earmarked Nu 600 million to support startups and upskilling initiatives under the Economic Stimulus Plan (ESP). Of the total, Nu 300 million is allocated as concessional loans to upscale existing startups, aimed at helping growth-stage businesses expand and sustain operations.

The remaining fund will be used to support programs that foster entrepreneurship among aspiring individuals. One such initiative is the National Startup Weekend, a bootcamp event where participants pitch business ideas and receive mentorship. The top three startups from each event gain access to seed funding opportunities from the Department of Industry.

Currently, the department is providing seed funding support to the top three winners of the recent National Startup Weekend, recognizing their potential for market impact and scalability.

In parallel, the Student Business Seedling Program, a 14-day intensive training, is being introduced for students from classes 9 to 12. The program is designed to equip young learners with entrepreneurial knowledge, skills, and confidence.

These initiatives mark a significant investment in building a vibrant startup ecosystem in Bhutan, with a focus on innovation, youth empowerment, and economic diversification.
