Ray-Yul Furniture: Empowering Dreams through Entrepreneurship

Sangay Chophel: From Academic Setback to Furniture Entrepreneur Extraordinaire

Sangay Chophel, 22-years-old, is the founder of Ray-Yul Furniture, a burgeoning enterprise located in Monger, Hururngpum. Overcoming personal setbacks and financial challenges, Sangay has emerged as a shining example of entrepreneurship, providing durable and high-quality metal and wood-based furniture to customers while creating employment opportunities for the youth in his community.

A Journey of Resilience:

Sangay’s journey began with a period of self-doubt and despair. Disheartened by his academic performance after completing high school at Nangkor Central School in 2020, “I felt as though my life had come to a standstill. My mental exhaustion left me speechless and isolated from my loved ones.”

However, a poignant conversation with his ailing father provided the much-needed spark of inspiration and determination. Realizing that his parents had never left him without support, Sangay vowed to prove himself and redefine his own path.

Equipping Himself for Success:

Driven by a vision to make a positive impact, Sangay embarked on a journey of self-improvement and skill acquisition. He pursued technical training in welding at Jigme Wangchuk Power Training Institute, becoming a certified welder. Furthering his expertise, he enrolled in furniture-making courses at Rangjung, where he honed his craftsmanship.

“Additionally, I attended an entrepreneurship course at Rangjung TTI and participated in the ITEC program in India, enhancing my management skills,” he said.

Ray-Yul Furniture: Empowering the Community:

Equipped with knowledge and expertise, Sangay founded Ray-Yul Furniture with a mission to provide customers with durable furniture and contribute to the local economy. Unlike many competitors, Ray-Yul Furniture offers both metal and wooden furniture, catering to a wider range of customer preferences. Moreover, they provide free repair services for furniture purchased from their company, ensuring customer satisfaction and loyalty.

Challenges and Triumphs:

Sangay’s entrepreneurial journey has not been without its fair share of challenges. “Financial constraints initially plagued the startup, and competition from imported furniture posed a significant threat,” he said.

However, Sangay’s unwavering commitment to his vision led him to collaborate with experienced friends, leveraging their expertise to overcome these obstacles. His dedication and hard work were rewarded when he received the DHI BIZAP fund, providing much-needed financial support to sustain and grow his business.

Sangay’s journey holds valuable lessons for aspiring entrepreneurs. He emphasizes the importance of aspiration, seeking inspiration from successful entrepreneurs, and putting in the necessary perspiration through hard work and dedication.

“Entrepreneurship is about being a problem lover and solver, and the success of an entrepreneur lies not only in financial gains but also in the positive impact made on the community,” he said.

Sangay Chophel acknowledges the invaluable support he has received from his parents, friends, and relatives throughout his entrepreneurial journey. “I express my gratitude to mentors like Mr. Chencho Gyeltshen and Mr. Pema Dhendup for their guidance and inspiration,” he said, adding that he acknowledges the Ministry of Information and Communications, the Entrepreneur Development Institute of India, and the DHI BIZAP for their support and belief in his dreams.
