Tek. Raw, Pure & Healthy is an agro-based manufacturing unit that processes and produces pure juice, frozen French fries, and Italian Culinary Herbs. These are made from local agro-products grown in the fresh Himalayan mountains, without using any chemical fertilizers.
The person behind this innovative idea is Tek Nath Adhikari, 27 from Gelephu but was brought up in Thimphu. His father brought him up for whom he has all his gratitude for his singlehanded upbringing. “I couldn’t study much,” said Tek but that didn’t deter him from pursuing his dreams.
Of course, it wasn’t all a smooth ride. He took up a job at the tender age of 17 at Rigsum IT company, to supplement a meager income his father minted. But his income was as meager as well. After his two years stint there, he switched his job.
That time, he ventured into the hotel and tourism sector. He worked as a waiter at Hotel Jomolhari. That’s when he first got a feeling that local products would find good customers. Foreign visitors and high-end customers would choose local over industrial products.
However, the business he planned to venture into required better planning and deeper understanding. He didn’t want to jump in. He needed more experience and exposure. For this, he went on to work at Le Meridian in Paro and Dusit D2 Yarkay in Thimphu. He even went out to work in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and worked in hospitality for almost 10 years. “It was an extraordinary journey serving and learning about humanity, the food industry, and professionalism.”
However, with the outbreak of COVID-19 towards the end of the year 2020, he decided to quit his job and pursue his dream. “I wanted to promote local products and offer choices for the people of Bhutan,” Tek shared. The choice to opt for local products which are pure and healthy. He said in the long run, consumption of such healthy and unadulterated products would create a healthy Bhutanese population.
“My long-term plan is to become the number one choice for all people in Bhutan serving Pure, Healthy & Better products without any artificial or chemicals added.” He shared that this is how he started the company, “Tek. Raw, Pure, and Healthy.” He is determined to further his business and make it a viable one. “I will never stop this journey though it’s so much difficult to survive and be successful.”
He intends to help substitute the imports. “If we produce and consume locally, the money circulates within our economy. This way, it contributes towards our country’s self-sufficiency and self-reliance,” he explained.
The raw colour of juice made from different fruits, that comes neat in bottles make one’s mouth juicy. The frozen French fries and Italian Culinary Herbs that the company produces are nothing less as well. They may appear the same as that any other industrial products, but they are different. They are different because it has no chemicals added. You may have to pay a little more for local products but it pays you more in the long-run in terms of long and healthy life.
Tek shared that his products may not taste exquisite as that industrially produced. But you got to know that it is Raw, Pure & Healthy for a better and healthy life.
