Tshering Yangzom 26 years old, who is from Bumthang has worked in a one of the bakery and a café in Thimphu. Started her own business in 2020 as home based business before she officially launched her café, she has completed high school.
Tshering said, “I had to leave my job at a café/ bakery in Thimphu during the COVID-19 pandemic and had to return home. I traveled straight to Tsirang to see my sister, and there we spoke about opening a custom cake-making home business in 2020. We discovered that the home-based prototype might function as a viable business. So, my sister and I began writing a business plan and looking for funding.”
Despite Tsirang’s reputation for producing highquality agricultural products, Tshering said that the community lacks places for people to gather, socialize, and enjoy delectable cakes. Tshering wanted to offer the locals soul food that is highquality, sustainable, and wholesome. She plans to operate her firm by utilizing readily available locally produced commodities in the area, which will decrease the amount of packaged food consumed.
Café Delish’s dedication to culinary innovation is one of its distinguishing characteristics. Tshering introduces seasonal specialties and experiments regularly with flavors and presentation to keep the food interesting and fresh. Tshering’s thriving cuisine scene is established by this commitment to originality. She mentioned that the Bongde Institute of Hospitality and Tourism in Paro provided her with training in bread and cream designing.
The COVID-19 epidemic caused many people’s jobs to be disrupted; some had to deal with temporary furloughs, layoffs, or adjustments to remote employment. Tshering is one of the professionals who have shown perseverance and adaptability in navigating unpredictable economic conditions as a result of the pandemic forcing them to adjust to changing work environments. Her dream was to become independent and start her own business, her circumstances allowed her to fulfill this desire.
Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, Tshering diligently pursued her dream of becoming an entrepreneur. Leveraging online platforms, she adapted her business model, reaching a broader audience. Through innovation and perseverance, Tshering not only sustained her venture but also expanded it, turning adversity into an opportunity for growth and achievement.
Like many other prospective entrepreneurs, Tshering found it extremely difficult to secure funding. It became more challenging to secure the required financial backing as a result of investor conservatism brought on by economic uncertainty. In addition to her family’s support, she received funds to launch her business from the Loden Foundation. The availability of skilled people complicates commercial operations at the same time. According to Tshering, navigating these two obstacles needed strategic planning, innovative solutions, and a resilient mentality in order to maintain and grow a successful firm.
According to her, entrepreneurship is more likely to flourish, particularly among young people, who can showcase their creativity and inventiveness through it. She also mentioned that steady support from stakeholders would encourage and expedite the process of attracting more entrepreneurs in the future. In fact, she plans to expand her business over the next five years and provide her clientele with better services.
For Tshering, being an entrepreneur is about taking charge, navigating unknown territory, and accepting the difficulties involved in starting and running a business. In order to realize a vision or idea, it requires an innovative, resilient mindset and a willingness to learn from both successes and failures. “Owning a café takes a certain combination of commitment, enthusiasm, and business sense.” According to her, a café’s ability to succeed frequently depends on its ability to create a warm and inviting environment, provide highquality goods, and adapting to changing consumer preferences.
Tshering concluded by saying, “You should take your career as entrepreneur only if you are passionate about it; otherwise, it might be difficult to thrive and one may experience tension and anxiety. Do a thorough analysis of the supply chain, competition, and budget before launching your business. Additionally, you should mentally prepare yourself for whatever obstacles you may encounter because things may turn out to be harder than you anticipated.”
