Once a humble sausage Startup – DAPPA, founded by Duptho Kezang in 2021, has emerged as a prominent player in the Bhutanese meat snack market. While his initial sausage varieties struggled to find a market, Duptho discovered his true success with his product – DAPPA -beef jerky. Today, with over 150,000 packages of jerky sold, DAPPA is an inspiring example of perseverance and innovation.

In a country where meat processing has long faced social stigma and stringent standards, Duptho Kezang and his team at DAPPA have managed to break barriers by focusing on ethical sourcing and hygienic manufacturing processes.

Recognizing the untapped potential for processed meat in the startup center in Thimphu, DAPPA aims to offer people the opportunity to enjoy high-quality meat snacks while upholding ethical and hygienic standards.

DAPPA’s journey has not been without challenges. Gaining momentum in the market was the biggest hurdle he faced. Introducing a new product and ensuring its survival in a competitive market can be daunting. However, with perseverance and determination, Duptho managed to keep his products on the market shelves for more than six months, gaining the acceptance and trust of the public. This perseverance and consistency in delivering a quality product have been key to DAPPA’s success.

Looking ahead, Duptho is focused on continuous growth and expansion. With his firm belief in the market potential for processed meat, he is currently developing new products that will resonate with the Bhutanese market.

“By consistently working on improving my recipes, timing, and quantity, I aim to meet the evolving demands of consumers while maintaining their commitment to ethical and hygienic practices,” Duptho said.

Advice to young entrepreneurs based on my experiences, Duptho shared that emphasizes the importance of thorough research and experience before diving headfirst into ideas. While it is crucial to stay focused on our main ideas, he suggests exploring and working on simpler ideas that have the potential to make a significant difference.

To Duptho Kezang, the word “entrepreneur” holds a straightforward meaning. It signifies a person who tirelessly pursues an idea until it can be transformed into a commercial success.

He said that his journey with DAPPA exemplifies the essence of entrepreneurship – pushing boundaries, adapting to challenges, and striving to create something meaningful.
