India Supports Bhutan’s Fire and Rescue Readiness with Nu. 72 Miilion Grant.

The Royal Bhutan Police (RBP) has received a fleet of five state-of-the-art firefighting vehicles and one rescue vehicle from the Government of India, significantly boosting the country’s emergency response capacity. The handover, held at the RBP Headquarters in Thimphu, is part of a Nu. 72 million grant assistance committed under Bhutan’s 13th Five-Year Plan.

Out of the total grant, Nu. 40.32 million was utilized for the procurement of the new vehicles and essential equipment aimed at enhancing the RBP’s preparedness and response efficiency during emergencies such as fires, natural disasters, and road accidents.

This strategic support marks a major milestone in Bhutan’s efforts to strengthen its disaster management and public safety systems. With growing urban settlements and a rise in fire-related incidents, the timely provision of modern rescue vehicles comes as a critical boost to the RBP’s capabilities across the country.

At the official handover ceremony, Mr. Niteen S. Yoela, Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of India in Bhutan, handed over the keys of the vehicles to the Additional Chief of Police, highlighting the enduring partnership between the two nations.

The RBP expressed deep gratitude to the Government of India and all national partners involved in strengthening Bhutan’s emergency infrastructure. It also reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives, property, and ensuring swift response during crises.

The newly inducted vehicles are expected to enhance the RBP’s operational coverage, particularly in high-risk zones, and reduce response times during emergencies — a crucial factor in minimizing damage and saving lives.
